I am excited to announce that I have teamed up with Kelly and the Butterflies class to create a Sound Garden at The Parish School. Having a Sound Garden promotes music learning outside the classroom, providing areas for listening to natural sounds and children created sounds with areas for interactive play and sound exploration.
We are starting with the preschool playground, then expanding to the elementary playground and toddler playground. With the children’s help and direction, we plan to make xylophones, marimbas, flipflopaphones, drums, wind chimes, music trees, music posts, banging walls, and music walls. These durable instruments encourages creativity and curiosity in musical play. See below for pictures of our Sound Garden ideas.
To move forward we need materials! We are looking for:
-wood, stump, log, branches
-PVC, pipes, bamboo
-rope, wires, clothes line
-wheels, bike spokes, steel wheels
-kitchenware: pots, pans, bowls, spoons, tins, cans, buckets, water jugs, paint cans, lids, spatulas, fly swatters, dishes
-cones of any size
-anything that can make sound or be part of a structure.
We plan to start building with supplies we have to gradually create the Sound Garden in our open playground spaces.
Please donate any supplies any time this school year to The Parish School.
