Microphone: Singing Solo

This has been an exciting week for choir students!  In their individual music classes and during choir, the Wranglers, Rockets, Penguins, Mustangs, and Explorers had the opportunity to sing solos using a microphone.

The students are so proud of themselves and their classmates and teachers are so proud of them!  Through taking turns waiting to sing a solo, the students are good audience members, respectively listening, and encouraging their friends.  Through singing solo, the student demonstrates how well they know the song and at the same time, it is extra group practice in rehearsing and hearing the song’s lyrics and melody.

Having the chance to sing using a microphone and sing in front of their peers and teachers gives the students a boost of self-confidence.  They work on their performance anxiety as they bravely let all eyes shine on them.  They realize they are a star and feel more comfortable on stage.  While we focus greatly on singing as a choir, students learn to develop their own singing voice that contributes to our choir voice.  It is their own voice that they can take and hold on to for when they want to sing on their own.  I am excited to have students sing solos at performances throughout the year to showcase their hidden talents.
