Going to the Beach: Sea Creatures

The BeachGrowing up in California, I love the beach!  With the beautiful weather in Houston, the Seals, Elephants, All-Stars, and Monkeys are visiting the beach in music.

With pictures of sea creatures and things we can find on the beach, I sing a song for students to pick a picture or to give me an idea to draw on the board.

Let’s go to the beach.
It’ll be so fun.
Take a look around.
(Name), what do you see?

(Name) sees a ______, a _______.
(Name) sees a _______.

Elephants Beach SceneThis is great to see what sea creatures and beach items they recognize from the pictures and to give the students a chance to share what they associate with the beach.  Pictures I use include fish, lobster, sand, starfish, palm tree, shark, dolphin, water, and whale.  As each student names their idea, I draw it on the beach, such as the eel, green fish, big fish, and crab.

This activity works on taking turns, learning, labeling and recognizing sea creatures, and participating with the group.   We enjoy going to the beach!
