Puppets with “Old MacDonald”

The Ducks are learning about farm animals and we sang “Old MacDonald” using puppets.  They identified animals found on a farm and corresponded an animal with accurate sound it produces.  I had students choose an animal out of my bag of pigs, cows, horses, and a dog puppets to give them a predetermined animal to sing about and be responsible for.

In singing “Old MacDonald,” I went to an individual student and had them identify their animal and say their animal sound.  Because there were two or three of an animal, I pointed to one student then another to say their animal sound in the song.  They were great in taking turns and listening to others.  Old MacDonald had more than one pig, cow, and horse!  That helped the Ducks stay focused on one animal and realize when they could chime in the sound. The Ducks were also great in finishing the phrase, “E-I-E-I-___.”  Several of them finished the song right on pitch!
