Parent Education: Benefits of Integrating Music Into the School Day

Thank you to the families and staff who attended my Parent Education presentation tonight.  I shared what music therapy is, what we do in music class, and the benefits of music.  With my presentation, I had a Powerpoint and made it interactive with a drum circle and playing instruments.  What better way to learn about music than to actually play!  In addition, I sang my hello and good-bye song to open and close the presentation for an additional musical experience.

The parents were so musical in their rhythm, following as a group, listening, and participating.  Thank you! 🙂  Parents shared that playing music made them feel good, relaxed, and that they had fun.  One parent shared they “loved how [I] incorporated the instrument playing to demonstrate/let us feel for ourselves all the effects and benefits.”  They learned “how music helps students learn and develop,” it’s more than just playing, there is hand-eye coordination, sustained attention, and listening involved in music.  They got a taste of what and how their students feel in music: anxious, excited, or nonchalant.

Here is my Powerpoint presentation: Benefits of Integrating Music Into the School Day  Please email me at if you have any questions or want to talk more about music at The Parish School.
