The Chestnut Oak cottage of All-Stars, Monkeys, Zebras, and Giraffes students have begun rehearsals on stage for our show, “Giving Thanks All Year Long.” Each class is singing one song and at the end, the whole cottage is singing one song together. Students are learning to walk together onto the stage, standing on the stage line, keeping their eyes on me, singing, bowing, and then walking off the stage quietly. On the elevated stage, some students said they feel scared, feeling a bit exposed while other students want to stay, sing a few songs, and bring down the library!
As we learned how to bow today, students shared their own versions with one arm cradled by their belly or with one leg out. To talk students through a bow, I bent at the waist and said something about my shoes, such as “I’m wearing shoes today” and “Look at my shoes!” They thought it was funny to talk about their shoes and at the same time, they did beautiful bows.
