First Day of School: “I Can’t Wait For…”

“Art! Books! Guitar! Learning! Cookies!” – All-Stars, Alligators, Zebras, Explorers

Today marks the beginning of my second year at The Parish School and the first day of classes!  In music, I showed the students pictures of different things and had them name each one (ex. music, art, school, drama, movies).

I sang a song with the phrase, “(Name), I can’t wait for…” and during their turn, the students filled in the blank.  Students worked on their receptive and expressive language of understanding the instructions and sharing what they can’t wait for.  A few students sang their responses, demonstrating their musicality in completing the phrase with the leading tone.  The visuals aids helped guide students toward an answer while other students thought of their own response without needing to look at the pictures.  Some other responses were: football, rubber ducks, singing, and dancing.  Surprisingly, the most thing that students can’t wait for are … cookies!

It’s going to be a great year of learning in music!
