Robots and the Ninja Band

“Can we play with the ninja band?” – J. Robots

The youngest elementary class, Robots, are experiencing their first martial arts class this summer at Camp Acorn.  Martial art is an abstract concept, so instead, we talk about being a ninja.  They know and love ninjas!  Especially the Ninja Turtles (the red and blue ones) and what they have seen in “Kung Fu Panda.”  With the idea of being a ninja, we train to be strong, fast, and in control by punching, kicking, and stretching our muscles in every class.

To work on their strength, coordination, and to have fun, we work out using the red stretch band to music.  Students call it the “ninja rope.”  We pull, push, and jump to work out our arms, legs, and whole bodies to the beat while holding the ninja rope.  We change our patterned movements to the choruses and verses of the music.  It really gets their energy going and they get a whole body workout.  It is exciting to watch the students grow in stamina and endurance!
