With sufficient training in target, control, and coordination, the Mustangs today worked in pairs using a hand target bag. They are the first group of students that I have tried with working strikes together. Each student had a minute punching and working on the bag while the other held the bag. Then we switched roles.
The Mustangs learned to stand their ground in a fight stand or horse stand, hold the bag out, and to keep it steady. In addition, they worked on punching accuracy, punching power, and strength in throwing more punches on the bag. Students realized a punch involves using the whole body and it is not just arms and fists. Working on the bag is good heavy work to relieve stress, anxiety, and extra energy.
The Mustangs had fun and really enjoyed the independence and trust I shown them by giving them the power to hold the bag themselves and work together. While focusing on the bag, there were a several students who were throwing great rhythmic combos and patterns. Very musical!
Thanks to the Parent Teacher Organization for purchasing these new bags for our martial arts class!
