In martial arts, I brought out a body shield target bag for student to practice their punches, kicks, and combination. This has helped with student’s aim, focus, and full arm/leg extension to reach the bag. They absolutely love to hit it as hard as they can to see if I will fall over. There have been a few students whose strikes have caused me to wobble or take a step back. The class cheers and are excited that I moved! It is a great game and really helped students work out their energy and power.
Through the use of the body shield bag, students have fun while exercising, coordinating punch and kick movements, and balance. Students have increased their level of self-confidence and self-image through martial arts when learning what their bodies can do and how much power they have inside of them. There are some strong nine to twelve-year-old students who are learning to harness their strength and release it in martial arts.
