Drumming Up Good Wishes!

As part of our Chinese New Year celebration, all music classes are drumming good wishes to their classmates, teachers, and the school in general.  Today the Kangaroos, Labs, and Fireflies had fun drumming up good wishes!  The students followed my lead, starting from a soft rumble to a loud rumble and stop.  Then they imitated me; I said and play the rhythm of a word, example: Hi-la-ry, (Hi-la-ry), mu-sic, (mu-sic), and dra-gon, (dra-gon).  After calling all the student’s names and words, we did another a soft rumble to a loud rumble and stop.  We repeated the pattern several times and some of the students had a turn to make up their own words and rhythms.  D. Fireflies said, “Happy new year.”  P. Fireflies said, “Go Fireflies!”  Many of the students demonstrated coordination of speech with drum beats and working on vocal production and impulsiveness.  The loud sounds scared away the bad luck and drummed up good luck for everyone!

Enjoy a video of the Labs and some Kangaroos spreading good wishes to all.
