“One Plate, Two Plates: Makes Two Skates”

“Welcome to The Parish School ice skating rink.”  This week, all classes will experience  “ice skating” in music.  With two paper plates, a clean carpet, and “The Nutcracker” music, students will not need to bundle up to enjoy a favorite winter activity.

The Bears, Elephants, Busy-Bees, Wranglers, and Ants were the first to test out the plate skates.  Some students stated they have gone ice skating before and demonstrated by holding onto the chairs for support like they would hold onto the side of the rink.  For some students, they were finding the balance and coordination to glide/walk along without slipping into the leg splits.  Creativity emerged when students started skating backwards, on their hands, and asking to link hands  We swung around and kept each other on our feet.  Peals of laughter and an injury-free event, ice skating was a warm hit with our students today!
